Sweet Beginnings in the Barn: A Historic Baby Shower at Jedediah Hawkins Inn

Some celebrations feel special, and then there are those that carry an extra layer of meaning—moments when history and joy come together so naturally that you can feel it in the air. The recent baby shower in the Barn at Jedediah Hawkins Inn for @jenniefer_lillian was one of those truly unforgettable occasions. With the theme “A New Chapter Begins,” it was a day that honored the past while looking forward to the beautiful journey ahead.

Our rustic North Fork event space was bathed in golden afternoon light, streaming through the wide Barn doors and illuminating the rich, weathered wood beams. At the heart of the room stood a graceful baby blue balloon arch, framing Jennifer’s special gift-opening chair—a picture-perfect focal point that reflected the joy of turning the page into this exciting new chapter.

This gathering held a deep connection to the property’s story. Many years ago, Jennifer’s great-aunt and great-uncle owned this historic North Fork inn. When the main house had fallen into disrepair, they built the charming home at the front of the grounds, preserving their family’s ties here until the inn could be restored. Hosting the baby shower here brought that history full circle, welcoming a new generation of their family back to a place they helped keep alive.

The Barn at Jedediah Hawkins Inn offers a unique blend of rustic elegance and intimate warmth, and on this day, it was filled with the hum of happy voices. Guests enjoyed mimosas and stations featuring brunch dishes while sharing stories—some about the baby-to-be, others about the family’s cherished history here.

The cake, positioned near the Barn doors, was a lovely creation—beautifully decorated with the book theme. It felt perfectly suited to the occasion: graceful, inviting, and just the right size for this intimate celebration. Between heartfelt toasts, photos beneath the balloon arch, and the joyful unwrapping of gifts, the day flowed with an easy, natural rhythm, echoing the theme of “A New Chapter Begins.”

For us at Jedediah Hawkins Inn, it was an honor to host a celebration that honored both North Fork history and the exciting story still to come.

Whether it’s a North Fork baby shower, wedding, or family milestone, our Barn is a place where stories—both old and new—can be celebrated in style. And on this day, it was the perfect setting for sweet beginnings and the very first page of a brand new chapter.

13 Last-Minute Thanksgiving Getaways

Thanksgiving at your house starts with good intentions — family, friends and a bit of football. For some reason, though, it generally ends with a kitchen in disarray and foreign marks on the living room furniture. And while we’re sure your little niece had no malicious intent with her yam-covered hands, that fact does little to ease your stress.

If you’re looking for a way to keep your sanity while still holding on to some holiday traditions this year, check out what these high-end hotels have cooked up for November 23. Whether you’re in the mood for a feast in New England or an impressive spread in the middle of the desert, these properties deliver. And the best part about these elegant meals is that you won’t have to lift a finger to clean up when you’re all finished.

Jedediah Hawkins Inn
Escape to this six-room inn for a cozy holiday in the North Fork, Long Island’s underrated wine country. Sip local pours and settle in for a classic three-course Thanksgiving dinner with options like butternut squash soup with crème fraîche and pumpkin seeds, oven-roasted turkey and prime rib with Yorkshire pudding.

Stay the weekend for Jedediah Hawkins Inn Barn Gallery’s November 25 opening of “Lyrical Light” by artist Max Moran. His impressionist oil paintings (which also dot the inn’s public spaces) capture the North Fork landscape and reveal why this area is so special.
